I have so many clients that ask me questions about them so I’ve decided to compile some of the most popular questions I get. Also for visual appeal, I’m going to be using one of my clients to show some of the different styling options she’s worn over the years.
1. What are hand tied extensions?
Hand tied extensions are essentially one thing: An all encompassing term that can either mean the hair extension wefts themselves or the installation method in which they are installed.
For the purpose of this article, we will be talking about the method in which they are installed.
The Method:
The hand tied installation method is done by placing silicone lined micro beads to the base of your hair to create a row. The hand tied weft is then sewn to the row with needle and thread. This creates a curtain of hair that is placed strategically to give you an instant look of fullness.
Our hand tied extension method creates maximum versatility as well as a full, natural look. The placement is generally based on each clients natural parting, density and length.
2. What brand are your hair extensions?

3. How long does the installation take?
It only takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to install a full set which is about 100 to 150 grams. The most time I’ve ever spent on an installation is 2.5 hours and that she had a LOT of hair.
4. What is the maintenance schedule?
You will need to get your extensions adjusted every 4 to 6 weeks depending on your grow out. This is also called a move up because your extensions are removed and moved back up to the base of your hair.
5. Are hand tied extensions bad for your hair?
If installed properly, hand tied extensions are not bad for your hair. The hair grows evenly with the bead so if you are getting adjustments every 4-6 weeks, your hair should be growing steadily. This method also requires no adhesives, glue or bonds so it safe in your hair.
As with all extensions, it’ll take some time to get used to a routine home maintenance schedule so as long as you adhere to the maintenance tools given at your appointment, you’ll be fine.
You cannot get hand tied extensions, go 16 weeks without maintenance and then call me saying that your hair extensions are damaging your hair because at that point, they should be. And apparently, you’ve resigned to a life of living on the edge and maybe extensions aren’t for you (THIS HAS HAPPENED).

No. We charge for the service only based on how much hair is installed. The majority of my clients only use 100 to 150 grams.
8. Can you put hand tied extensions in a ponytail?
Yes. Our hand tied extensions are placed so that they can be put up into a high ponytail or a high bun.

9. Are hand tied extensions good for thin hair?
Hand tied extensions can be applied to thinner hair. It can be beneficial to thinner hair because there are less points of contact on the base of your head. The weight of hand tied extensions is evenly distributed between the rows so that it’s not too heavy. Hand tied Weft hair gives a fuller look without adding too much hair.
10. How many rows do I need?
The number of rows you get during an installation depends on your density, length, and goals. Most clients get 1-3 rows.
11. Do hand tied extensions hurt?
As with most hair extension methods, you will feel slight discomfort the first 1-2 days. Taking a simple pain reliever can alleviate any tension you may feel. After a couple days, they loosen and the tightness goes away.
12. How long do hand tied extensions last?
We only use true virgin remy hair to create our extensions so with proper care, they can last 7-12 months. After that, new hair extensions must be purchased.

Because of the intricate nature of the application process, we suggest that all hand tied extensions are removed here at the salon.
14. Do you blend the extensions so that they look natural?
Yes, all extensions services include blending layers to make sure the hair extensions look as natural as possible.
15. How do I sleep with hand tied extensions?
Here’s a few sleep tips that you should follow:
– Brush hair from the ends to roots removing any tangles in your hair
– Braid your hair into a single braid or two braids on each side
– Sleep in a satin bonnet or on a silk pillowcase for to keep hair shiny and healthy
– DO NOT SLEEP WITH WET HAIR
16. Can you feel hand tied extensions?
Yes, you can feel hand tied extensions. Once the hair has been installed, you should feel a little tightness for a few days but after a few days, they should be loose enough to style and wear them however you like.

Hand tied extensions can be styled just like you would your own hair. They can be braided, curled, and straightened. They can be put up in a top knot and also buns.
